I've travelled the globe to find the perfect sausage and I've found plenty of them at Lidgates. The Grumpy Old Men, Carmelised Onion, Toulouse and Lamb BBQ sausages are just the best. Top marks Lidgates!

Its been said before, but how much truth there is in the adage that you cannot find a decent sausage in London. When out and about at the weekend, I become frustrated - even depressed - by the frankly pathetic array of small, ugly specimens on display at the many inner city meat markets. Well praise be for C. Lidgates in trendy Holland Park, where the sausage offering, when I visited last month, was standing proud to greet me.

What immediately takes you is the freshness of the approach. First off, the meat is entirely naturally presented - not for Lidgate the crumply plastic wrapping. Then, of course, the all-important stuffing: succulent, sweet and almost consistently complimentary to the meat in question, without being overly fussy or orthodox - bung it all in and see what happens seems to be the method and there is something wholesome and quite refreshing about this laissez-faire approach.

I was a little disappointed by the size of some of the sausages - a little smaller than I would like - not unusual I suppose, but certainly nothing to write home about. Two Lidgates bangers inside you will satisfy the average of appetites but those of us after a bit more, may be a little underwhelmed. That said, what they lack in length, they make up for in sheer succulence - and we must not forget that girth is important too and Lidgate have that one in the bag.

I have yet to find anywhere else in London that I could recommend more. Lets make no bones about this: they are pricey but you''re paying for quality - the meat is juicy and bulging, the accompanying spice almost always complimentary and I have seen the same faces in the line at weekends - they come out beaming and, like me, I can only assume they too think Lidgates sausage a cut above the rest.

I like Lidgates but there is one of their staff who is very scruffy and I dread being served by him. So much so that I have stopped going there. I think they either need to ask him to clean up or give him another job not in the main shop. The meat and sausages etc. are very expensive but better than what you can find elsewhere.

Whenever I travel to the UK, I always manage a vistit to Lidgates. The selection and quality is outstanding. You may pay for it, but they certainly deliver.

I frequently travel south to get a peak at a Lidgate''s sausage. Succulent, wholesome and oh-so satisfying. Cheap? Certainly not but you get what you pay for and when it comes to quality, Lidgates stop at nothing.

Fabulous meat, outstanding knowledgable staff.

As someone who used to work in Lidgates I really cannot see what the fuss is about. I think that subconciously people believe that if they pay more it tastes better. We used to get anything we liked free for lunch (the sausages, pies, chops, chicken legs etc) and I tried them all (except the pies as all the old meat went into these) but found nothing special.

My daughter has just been down for a job interview with Lidgates and bought me home some venison sausages for me and my mate Paul. Wow, what a treat, meaty, tasty, wonderful with a fried egg and toast. Thanks Rachel!

Have shopped at this butcher over the past decade. The quality of the food I bought yesterday was a far cry from the standards of old. Hence the shop was deserted and the five assistants were huddled around gossiping about customers they had served that day. I bought sausages which on cooking were very disappointing, lacking in meat and did not seem very fresh. It is a matter of turnover and Lidgates do not appear to have that at the moment. With the absence of any proper butchers there I am wondering if the business has been sold on. There was an Austalian guy serving who was very unprofessional and kept uttering rude comments beneath is breath the whole time he was serving us. We felt very uncomfortable. This business has had its day and is no longer the place it once was.

I also used to work at Lidgates and can put my hand on my heart and say that Lidgates has it down! There is not another place like it, David Lidgate knows his stuff. Nothing is impossible and the quality is 100%. If you can find something to complain about besides the price, than like the sign says above the desk....

We went on a tour with Lidgates free of charge to view Christmas Turkeys being raised in Kellys Farm in the country. Amazing experience for my daughter and I. Such lovely people and fantastic turkey conditions. These people could not care more about their produce and customers. Marvelous! would not buy my Turkey anywhere else !
