I''''m not a fan of bizarre taste combinations in sausages, most tend to be gimmicks. The best sausages are simple with the minimum of ingredients and one or two complementary flavors.

This is why I was keen to try this new sausage from Farmhouse Direct. They explained that the main function of the rhubarb is to soften the meat and to add a little moisture. The main taste elements are the meaty pork taste from Gloucester Old Spots complemented by the warmth of the ginger. The acidity of the rhubarb lingers in the background and works well with the ginger.

An excellent evening sausage (not for breakfast or BBQ), good with mash,gravy and green vegetables or with a tangy chutney or pickle (rhubarb chutney?).

They cost ?9.25 a kilo and like other sausages from Farmhouse Direct are made with rare breed pork and a few, good ingredients. Highly recommended.
