Donald Russell hold the Queens's warrant for the supply of meat and poultry. It's not hard to see why: They have a superb website, an excellent brochure and the best home delivery system we have tried to date (and we have tried more than a hundred). They have also been selcted by the Sunday Times as the best online butcher.
Best known for superb, well hung Scottish beef they actually sell the lot - the beef (brilliant steaks), lamb, pork, fresh fish, poultry (duck legs, guinea fowl, corn fed chicken), cooked dishes and of course sausages and bacon.
They offer top quality butchery such as rack of lamb, well trimmed steaks and Château Briand (my next purchase - for me this is ultimate steak - a pound of meat with a rib, enough to fed 2 or 3).
The sell 2 sausages selections at £19.90 each for 36 sausages weighing around 2.4kg. The traditional box contains Pork & leek, Premium pork and Cumberland. The alternative box contains 6 different varieties including pork & cheese, Toulouse and Lamb, mint & garlic. They also sell a bacon box and an intriguing Scottish pudding box, this also costs £19.90 and contains superb haggis, black pudding and white pudding.
The presentation is very slick and efficient, the web site allows you to pick a delivery date and even specify whether you want your meat to be frozen of not. Delivery is £7.50 or free on orders of above £100. Next time I Will spend £100 and stock up my freezer. Highly recommended, especially now as they have a winter sale until 28 February 2005 - the sausage boxes are reduced to £18.
My father had a bbq on Saturday and he had sausage + burgers from Donald Russell. I thought they were very tasty and will order some myself.
