Consumers misled by labels

Who makes the best sausages? Tell us now by voting for Britain's Best Banger! and you could win the ultimate sausage lover's day trip! Vote now!
Is the conclusion of a report published by The Food Standards Agency.

The agency is concerned that terms such as Traditional, Farmhouse, Natural and Home Made are being used in relation to products made in factories with modern methods and ingredients.

They found that the labelling used on nearly half of products was misleading or ambiguous and did not follow guidelines published in 2002. Misleading labels were found on products from across the food sector - ranging from Sticky Toffee Pudding to Cumberland Sausages and independents to supermarkets.

The message is to treat claims carefully and only pay premium prices for genuine, reputable products.
