This cult event, now in its tenth year, brings visitors from across the UK to see the stars of the show - over 250 chillies and sweet peppers on display in the restored Victorian glasshouses. Embracing all shapes and sizes ranging from Apache to Wild Fire, Banana to Carrot and Titanic, and in a kaleidoscope of colours from reds to oranges and yellows to greens, every chilli variety demands closer inspection.
To add to the carnival atmosphere, there are Latin rhythms, salsa dancing, guided tours of the walled gardens, chilli growing demonstrations, and at least 40 exhibitors offering an unrivalled range of plants, gifts, sauces, sizzling snacks and tastings, chilli paraphernalia and cooking demonstrations, guaranteed to spice up the senses.
Global cuisines such as Thai, Indian, Caribbean, Singaporean and Mexican are all represented. More unusual products on offer among the huge array of food and drink will be home-made chilli ice cream, chilli chocolate and even chilli fruit juices, together with local beers and ciders - all that's needed to whet the appetite and cool the palate.
