A farm shop near Loughborough where you can go for a walk in the woods (see the free range pigs dotted about in arcs), watch the butchers at work, buy your sausages and stay for tea.
The Bell family have been farming here for 20 years. They undoubtedly sell a high quality product (at a premium price - £34 per kg for fillet steak) and are very proud of the organic/non BSE credentials of the farm. They sell good food, having said this they need to work on customer care - you don't expect to be told to 'read this leaflet' when you ask about the origin and breed of the meat at this sort of establishment!
They sell free range turkeys, geese, game, pork from Large Black pigs, lamb from Dorset Down sheep and beef from traditional Herefords. They make over 10 varieties of organic sausages which sell at very modern price of £9.90 per kg. They are very good, well made with lots of quality meat, they have a loose, moist texture and none of the dryness often associated with organic sausages.
They have a shop selling the meat, organic food, wine and a café & restaurant.
They sell at local farmers markets and are open on Friday and Saturday. The café is open Tuesday - Sunday.
The porky Surprise is an excellent, thick meaty sausage. They are wonderful cold. They come from an organic farm and its good to know where they come from.
